The Kindle app gives users the ability to read eBooks on a beautiful, easy-to-use interface. You may also read your book on your phone, tablet and Kindle e-Reader, and Amazon Whispersync will automatically sync your most recent page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights, so you can pick up right where you left off.

Kindle for Mac 1. However, using it on MacOS is frustrating. Seven months ago I purchased a book on Javascript and attempted to work my way through it. With no input from me whatsoever, the pages jumped forwards or backwards by pages. Then I would have to go back and find the page I was on. Clicking to find the page would also result in it going much further than I intended it to.

Then sometimes that would go too far. When I ordered another book, this time on Python, it was the same wretched experience. I gave up on it a few times, then came back because I already paid for the book and was determined to get through it. I love Kindle and Audible and I hate to give it a bad review but on Mac, this app is garbage.

This is an impulse review so my opinion may change after awhile. I was thrilled when opening the Kindle book I bought to see how beautifully rendered the text was and the ease of navigating through it.

I was about to dock a star since there was an image of a table on a page that was hard to read but found that double clicking the image brings up a larger easier-to-read version. I was weary of buying the book digitally since I did not have a great experience with purchasing magazines in a digital format in the past through other applications, not Kindle. For the magazines, I would have to zoom in on the text in order to read it and use the scrollbar to get across the whole page.

The flaw with the magazine format was presenting the left and right pages at the same time so by default it was zoomed out to fit both pages on the screen at the same time thus making the text small and blurred. It was lacking a single page flip format like this Kindle app does for the digital book I bought.

This is written in from the perspective of a MacBook Pro 15 inch. As far as I can tell the app works mostly as intended. To elaborate in order to highlight something you hold your mouse down until the word is selected and in order to highlight a selection of text like a sentence or paragraph you just drag from the selected region to the end point.

All that one does is open to the page of the last synchronized book, and it stays there, frozen. If you rely on a Kindle or Kindle app for reading, you probably know that it supports not only ebooks, but also PDFs.

In fact, if you've done your homework, you also know that your Kindle or Kindle app has its own email address, meaning you can send any PDF straight to your device just by attaching it to an email. But reading PDFs on a Kindle requires a little help. Portable Document Files PDFs are static images, boasting exactly the same dimensions, typeface, illustrations and formatting, on any device capable of opening them.

The comparatively small size of the display forces you to zoom and scroll around to read the document. The solution to this is to convert the PDFs to be read on a Kindle. We'll show you the aforementioned email trick first, and then a couple of other solutions. Check out our latest Kindle reviews and ratings in our comprehensive roundup. Every Amazon Kindle comes with its own email address. Amazon will automatically convert the contents of the PDF to a size that your e-reader can more readily handle.

Using this method to convert PDFs has its drawbacks. Third, if your PDF contains images or charts, the conversion process may orient them the wrong way in the document or split them across several pages. If you read a lot of PDFs on a regular basis, you'll likely not want to send an email every time you want to convert one.

Once installed, simply sign into the app using your Amazon credentials and right-click on the PDF you want to send to your Kindle. The converted PDF will appear in your Kindle e-reader, with all of the same caveats that come with sending the document via email, sans the drudgery of typing out and sending a message.

Amazon also offers a Send to Kindle browser extension for Firefox and Chrome users. If you need to bulk-convert a large number of PDFs for reading on your Kindle or want to maintain a library of Kindle-optimized files on your computer, you may want to consider downloading Calibre.

Open-source and free-to-use, Calibre can convert multiple PDFs and send them to your Kindle quickly and easily. Your Kindle will be ready to show those PDFs within minutes.

A lot of work went into making Kindle as book-like as possible while still preserving the advantages of an electronic device, such as a customizable interface, variable type size, notes, data storage, and more. Kindle for PC is freeware that lets you access your Kindle titles without a Kindle device. Its Whispersync feature automatically syncs your last page read, bookmarks, notes, and settings between a wide range of compatible devices.

Clicking Archived Items accesses your saved titles. Kindle for PC works much like the handheld device, with a basic but quite user-friendly interface, simple controls, and PC-specific features, such as an outlined graphic that pops up with helpful instructions for using the mouse to do what you do with your fingers on the handheld device.

We clicked Shop in the Kindle Store to add some titles; you can buy e-books, but there are literally millions of free titles available to download through Amazon. A few clicks, and the e-book was in our Archive. We opened it and immediately began to read a facsimile of the first story, "A Scandal in Bohemia.

Kindle for PC brings your home PC, laptop, and other non-Kindle devices into the loop, and without losing your place. I can't download half of the stuff i already bought. PC version of Kindle has always been horrible. Especially when it come to the Modern apps. Too many limitations and still much work to be done. If you need a simple reader for separate books, this is not for you.

Literally none. Not one. If you've used kindle on any other platform this will feel like electro-shock therapy. I have tried three different version of kindle app for surface pro 3, all of them woefully inadequate. The native app for windows is brutal - highlighting is an exercise in futility - unless you want to use the the keyboard and trackpad.

Forget it. With a finger it is impossible. With the pen even more so - all it does it advance or reverse the pages inexplicably when you try to highlight. The IOS app is flawless and a great pleasure to use - better, even, than the native kindle, with the multiple colors and ease of using touch to highlight or make notes.

Amazon Kindle

With the surface, which is supposed to be an intuitive device, it's like using a prosthetic arm for the first time. Just unacceptable. I have tried the the app for the SP3, the online kindle app for both IE and Chrome, as well as the windows downloaded program kindle reader. Of the three the downloaded version is the best, and it is excruciatingly bad compared to either my iphone or cheap paperwhite. I'm not sure if Amazon and Microsoft are at some kind of war, but it is very clear that the quality of the kindle apps between IOS and Windows is astonishing far apart.

It's a freaking book reader - why is it so difficult to enable the same features across platforms? This one app has spoiled the whole experience of owning a SP3. Who do I complain to?

Microsoft or Amazon??? You can print any ebooks that you purchased by Amazon's Kindle. You are stuck with the app. You really can't do what you want with the ebook you purchased.

One such feature is printing.Kindle Previewer is a free desktop application that enables authors, publishers and eBook service providers to preview how their books will appear when delivered to Kindle customers, and makes it easy to audit books for different screen sizes, display orientations and font sizes.
